good-bye to the old

So, as i said in the last few posts, the past 2 weekends we had a garage sale! we got everything together, got our bright neon orange signs set out and sat back to wait for the customers...

maria was home for the weekend so she kept us company and graciously helped move things as needed. we had a pretty good day friday with lots of people coming out!

saturday, however, was a little slower, which we felt was due to the rampant gas shortage of the past few weeks--if people didn't have to go an extra mile, they didn't. however, maria has taken up the lovely little hobby of knitting, which i found rather unexpected. but she is so good--and way faster than me! under her influence and encouragement, i finally finished a scarf i started (achem) 3 years ago, while she proceeded to do a whole one in just about one sitting!

it was nice to have my mom too--really, she was the one doing most of the work. she was happy to sell a few bigger items that have been hanging around for a while. my biggest item was my flute, which wasn't really sold at the garage sale...but i still managed to sell some stuff, including a few ceramic pieces!

judah on the other hand, was not a big help. if anything, he just liked having lots of stangers to bark at.

as part of our sale, my parents also decided to sell some old furniture that have been with our family since the beginning of their marriage!!! a sofabed and a lounge chair that i grew up with...i know, this doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was rather sad to see these things go. if i had an apartment, i would take them. alas.

don't be fooled, my mom is not crying in that chair. she is pretending--inside she was celebrating that she now has more room in the downstairs to put up shelves

I, on the other hand, felt a pang of sentimentality (is that a word?) and loss as my childhood was stripped away before my eyes. well, ok, it wasn't that bad--but saying good-bye to the old is always bittersweet.

This is not a very deep post. I know, an entire post about selling things. but, you want to know what my life is like? here it is. hopefully next week there will be something more exciting because tomorrow i am headed to alabama to visit my friends wes and terressa and their 2 little kiddies!
